This medieval town sitting in the loop of the River Severn was the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is famed for its
history and architecture. In the town centre there are a multitude of half timbered Tudor buildings, and more than 660 listed
buildings. Shrewsbury also boasts a Norman Abbey, a medieval castle, fine examples of Georgian architecture, a most
unusual circular church and the world's tallest Doric column! There are a number of museums and galleries to visit and in the fine
weather the Quarry Park provides a lovely setting for a stroll by the river or a relaxing rest in the beautifully landscaped Dingle. The
river can also be viewed from the cruise boat which docks at the Quay only a short stroll from the centre of town.
Throughout the year Shrewsbury plays host to various attractions, the most well known being Shrewsbury Flower Show,
held in August each year. The town also offers
plenty of entertainment from theatre and cinema to a wide selection of pleasant bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.
